Chromium, Firefox, or Safari

macOS and Linux: Fable's core is web-first and cross-platform, so native builds for macOS and Linux are on the roadmap. In the meantime the app is buildable from source on both, and the web app runs anywhere with a modern browser.

System requirements

Fable is a lightweight native shell over a web core. It runs comfortably on modest hardware.

  • Operating system. Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit. macOS and Linux from source for now.
  • Runtime. Microsoft Edge WebView2, already present on current Windows and installed automatically if missing.
  • Memory. 4 GB RAM is plenty. Idle memory sits around 251 MB with a vault open, including the shared Windows WebView2 runtime.
  • Disk. About 11 MB installed, from a 3.49 MB installer. Your vault lives wherever you keep it.
  • Web app. Any current Chromium browser, Firefox, or Safari. Local folder access uses the File System Access API where available.
  • Network. None required. Fable works fully offline. No account and no telemetry.

Verify your download

Every release ships SHA-256 checksums so you can confirm a file is genuine and complete before running it.
