Core plugins

Much of Fable is built as core plugins: first-party features you can switch on and off individually. Trimming the set you do not use keeps the interface exactly as small as you want it.

What core plugins are

Core plugins ship with the app. They are not installed or updated separately, only enabled or disabled, under Settings → Core plugins. Disabling one removes its commands, ribbon icons, panes and editor behavior; re-enabling restores them. Plugins with options show a gear next to their toggle.

Your choices are saved in the vault's .obsidian folder, so each vault can run a different set, and a vault configured in Obsidian keeps its plugin selection in Fable for every feature both apps share.

Slash commandsType / in the editor for an inline command menu.
Word countLive word and character counts in the status bar, including for selections.

Fable enables the everyday set by default; capture plugins like Templates start off until you turn them on. The exact defaults are visible at Settings → Core plugins.

Per-plugin options

A plugin's gear opens its options pane. Where those options are covered in these docs, the pages above go into detail, for example the date formats for Daily notes and Templates, and the display options for Backlinks. Per-plugin settings are stored as JSON files in the vault's .obsidian folder, written only once you change something.

What about community plugins?

Not yet

Fable does not yet run third-party plugins or ship a plugin marketplace. Community plugins installed in an Obsidian vault's .obsidian/plugins/ folder are left untouched on disk and simply do not run. Extensibility is on the roadmap, and when it lands it will default to a restricted mode that asks before running any third-party code.
