Quick switcher, command palette & bookmarks
Fable is built to be driven from the keyboard. Two modals do most of the work: the quick switcher jumps to any note, and the command palette runs any action. Bookmarks keep your most-used places one click away.
The quick switcher
Press Ctrl O to open the quick switcher, then type a few letters of a note's name. Matching is fuzzy, so scattered letters work, and it searches both note names and their aliases.

Because Enter creates a missing note, the switcher doubles as the fastest way to start a new note: press Ctrl O, type the title, press Enter, and write.
Files matching your Excluded files patterns are pushed to the bottom of results rather than hidden. In settings you can restrict the switcher to existing files only, or let it find attachments too.
The command palette
Press Ctrl P to open the command palette, a fuzzy-searchable list of every action Fable can perform, from toggling reading view to creating a canvas.
- Fuzzy matching: initials work, so
tlpcan find Toggle Live Preview. - Hotkey hints: each command shows its current shortcut, which makes the palette a great way to learn hotkeys.
- Recent commands appear at the top when the query is empty.
- Pinned commands: pin your favorites in Settings → Command palette so they always sit at the top.
- Only commands that make sense in the current context are shown.
Slash commands
While writing, type / at the start of a selection point to open an inline command menu right at the cursor, then keep typing to filter. It is the palette without leaving the text, handy for inserting callouts, headings or templates mid-thought.
Bookmarks
Bookmarks give permanent homes to the things you return to. Open the Bookmarks pane from the left sidebar.
- Bookmark almost anything: files, folders, searches, headings and blocks.
- Rename a bookmark to give it a friendlier label than its file name.
- Organize into groups and reorder by drag and drop, building your own little launcher.
Bookmarking a search saves the query, not the results. Open it any time to re-run the search against your current vault, which makes bookmarked searches a lightweight dashboard: tag:#todo -task-done: as a bookmark is a living to-do list.
